The next match you will be able to enjoy is Everton Women - London City Lionesses W and it will be played next Friday, September 19, 2025 at 8:30 PM televised by WSL YouTube, ESPN+ Plus, ESPN App.

The FA Women's Super League is the most important league for women's football in England. It was created in 2010 by the Football Association and replaced the National Premier League.

Currently, the competition is made up of 12 teams. The top finishers get access to the next edition of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

The intention of the organizers was to make a professional league from the beginning, but in November 2010 it was confirmed as semi-professional. In this way, only some of the best players could dedicate themselves full time to soccer.

The 2011 FA Women’s Super League season included a mid-season hiatus to allow the players chosen for the England national team to prepare for the World Cup. Until 2017, the competition was only played during the spring and summer months.

In addition to the FA Women’s Super League, there is another tournament called the FA Women’s Super League Cup. It has a group stage format and then knockouts to decide the champion. In 2014 the competition was played after finishing the league. Since 2015, both are disputed in parallel.

The Football Association announced in September 2017 a reform of the league to expand the participants of the first two divisions of women's football. Looking ahead to the 2018-19 campaign, he definitely became professional.

Each team can have a maximum of up to 23 players on the squad. As in men's football, foreign female footballers need to obtain a work permit in order to join the clubs and take part in the competition.

To balance the difference in level between the teams, since 2013 a salary limit system has been included in the FA Women's Super League regulations.

Arsenal won the inaugural season in 2011. The Gunners obtained 32 points from 14 games and finished at the top of the standings ahead of rivals such as Birmingham City, Everton, Lincoln Ladies, Bristol Academy, Chelsea, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Liverpool. A success that they also repeated in the following campaign, being the first club in history to successfully defend the title.

The first games of the FA Women’s Super League on television were seen on ESPN. Over the years, live coverage expanded until it was possible to see, either through conventional channels or through streaming, the vast majority of meetings.
